Our Classic Group Trips!

Remote Recreation Safaris organizes private safaris and trips just for you and your friends and family. These are supported by our local partners in each destination country who have been hand selected for their experience, local knowledge, and strength of operations. These small groups are usually between 1 and 12 people in size, but exceptions can be made for some locations. On special request, we can accompany your group.

We also organize and personally lead about 8 – 10 small groups each year. These are predominantly African safaris, but we also throw in other destinations each year as you will see below. The planning for these starts 2-3 years before we depart, they are small groups so they do sell out VERY quickly, and ideas for the destinations we choose often come from our clients themselves. As in “Charlie, do you lead groups to Namibia’s Skeleton Coast?”, or “Charlie, how would you feel about leading us to the Himalayas to see snow leopards and other wildlife?” It all starts as an idea, a dream, a need — your’s and our’s!!

2027 GUIDED TRIPS

August 2027: A Guided Safari to Zimbabwe, Remote parks. Every year we take a group to Zimbabwe, because we value authenticity, superb guiding, and fantastic wildlife — and ZERO crowds. The camps will be comfortable (en suite showers and flushing toilets, great food and drinks), but our resources will be spent on taking you off the beaten track by charter bsh flights to Africa’s best but largely overlooked parks. The national parks and conservancies we visit include Gonarezhou, Save’, Matusadona, Hwange, the Zambezi Valley, Mana Pools, and end at Victoria Falls. This safari will be for 6-12 people, visit 3 to4 of these destinations, be 13 days long, and the cost is $14,800/pp based on double occupancy.

July and August 2027: Remote Recreation Safaris develops prime safaris to Africa’s best camps and parks, and we recognize that not everyone can swing up to 6 figures per person. We have developed a strong partnership with one of Zimbabwe’s best Professional Guides to deliver an opportunity for a quality “mobile camping” safari. This safari will take you to camps in 3 vastly different ecosystems in Africa’s 5th largest national park, Hwange. It’s roughly the size of Connecticut, and shares 70% of the world’s African elephant population (migrating with its neighbor Chobe NP). This low impact and sustainable safari camp model is Africa’s most eco-friendly, and provides a high level of comfort but in a less ‘glamping’ situation. Many of our guests prefer this model, as it brings them closer to nature (but the beer is still cold and the showers hot), and it also allows for walking opportunities, so you won’t be tied to a vehicle all day. These mobile safaris can be a mixed group if your party is 1-5 pax, but with 6 or more people you will have a private camp just for your group. This is as authentic, old school safaris get in Africa, while still having the very best guiding in Africa and comfortable camps. The cost is $6,900 for 9 nights on safari and 2 nights in Victoria Falls, all inclusive except international airfare, tips, and visas. Adults only.

July 2027: A private float safari down the Zambezi River with River Gods. https://rivergodadventures.com/. Wildlife viewing, walking safaris, fishing, birding. Followed by a 4 night traditional land based safari and stop in Victoria Falls.

Sept 2027: 01 Night at Hotel No5 Kampala – 04 Nights at Apoka Safari Lodge in Kidepo Valley NP – 03 Nights at Twiga Safari Lodge in Murchison Falls NP – 03 Nights at Buhoma Lodge in Bwindi Impenetrable NP. This is your chance to see the incredible mountain gorillas, but this safari will also take you to two of Africa’s finest and least visited national parks: Murchison Falls and Kidepo Valley National Parks. Kidepo Valley is reminiscent of the Maasai Mara… in 1880, before it was discovered by anyone but the Maasai tribe. January 2026: Antarctic Expedition: Crossing the 66th Parallel! This expedition is 14 days, and will take us far beyond the northern peninsula where most ships do a Antarctica drive by cruise. Our smaller sized expedition ship is just 104 passengers, allowing everyone to depart the ship at every stop (only 100 pax to offload in the Antarctic, leaving guests on 400 pax ships waiting their turn at every stop and missing a lot of the fun). January 25 – Feb 8 2026: Antarctic Expedition! We team with Poseidon Expeditions to bring you not just a drive-by of Antarctic’s northern peninsula, but deep into the polar region and cross the official 66th Parallel. This is a small vessel (114 pax max), which allows us to make many, many more landings than the larger ships. This is a very special 15 day expedition. VERY LIMITED SPACE!!

October 2025: Mexico, for the Day of the Dead Festival!! We have secured an entire 100 year old, private hacienda outside of Merida to enjoy this festival, take cooking and tequila classes, and visit nearby Aztec ruins and a national park for flamingos and other bird life. 12 pax only. SOLD OUT.

Oct 28 to Nov 4 2025: Mexico’s “Day of the Dead Festival” at Hacienda Petac near Merida, Mexico. We have the total, sole use of this beautiful hacienda set on over 100 acres just outside of Merida, not far from the Yucatan Mayan ruins. A very chill holiday. SOLD OUT

August 13 – 26 2025: Zimbabwe safari for 10 pax max. We will safari to Mana Pools National park and Hwange National Park, and finish in Victoria Falls. Zimbabwe is probably our favorite destination (although it’s hard to choose!), and we always love sharing the best kept secret in Africa.A FEW PLACES LEFT!!

August 1-12 2025: Zambia safari with Classic Zambia Safaris. We will meet in Zambia’s capital, Lusaka, and take a charter flight to the Zambezi Valley and stay in two camps in this area, before flying across the country to Kafue National Park. This is a very authentic, old school safari that will keep us close to nature. SOLD OUT

August 1-15 2025: Zimbabwe safari to Gonarezhou and Mana Pools National Parks, and Victoria Falls. 10 people max. We’ll meet in Harare and take a chartered bush flight to the very Remote Gonarezhou National Park for 4 nights at Mahove Camp, to an incredibly exquisite ecosystem on the Zim-Mozambique-South Africa border area. No scheduled airline flights to this location, which means we have this park pretty much all to ourselves. From there we will charter another bush flight to Mana Pools National Park, on the banks of the Zambezi River. We’ll have 4 nights at one of our favorite camps, Little Vundu Camp. From there, we will fly a bush flight to Victoria Falls for two nights at the Falls. SOLD OUT

May 29 to June 7 2025: Fishing safari to Zambia’s Barotse Flats: This will be an expedition of sorts to get there, but once there we will have a very comfortable fishing lodge. This stretch of the Zambezi River is quite difficult to reach (that’s what we do, organize this for you!), which means its huge, aggressive tiger fish have very little fishing pressure. On previous trips, we have caught tiger fish up to 21lbs. The period we are fishing is when the flood water recedes, bringing the bait into the main river channels, when — it is devoured by hungry tiger fish schooling the bait fish into bait balls, much as tuna and dolphin do. February 2025 SE Asia 2025: We will follow the same itinerary as the January 2025 trip, but begin with the Siem Reap – Angkor Wat add on at the beginning, and then fly to Hanoi to do the Vietnam portion of the trip. SOLD OUT

January 2025 SE Asia: This photography-centric trip will begin in Hanoi and take a small group through it’s wonderful architecture and historical sights, and move on to a short Halong Bay cruise and then Trang. We will then fly to Vietnam’s ancient capital of Hue to see the palaces and historical sights of this charming city. We will stop for an overnight in Da Nang to shoot its special bridges and sight, before moving on to Hoi An. Hoi An is a UNESCO site: fantastic architecture, food, and shopping…and the lantern capital of the World. We will then fly to Ho Chi Minh City and shoot the rural scenes south of this big city, and see the historical sights of HCMC. Add on: we have a special add on to this trip, flying to the amazing temples of Angkor Wat and the fun city of Siem Reap. SOLD OUT

2024 Guided Trips

Our 2024 trips sold out so quickly that we are turning to designing the 2025 and 2026 even earlier. Already, we had set up a trip to the Antarctic in January 2026.
There will be trips to Zimbabwe for sure, for either 6 or 12 pax. But we are also reaching out to clients to see where they might want us to lead groups: India, Bhutan, Southeast Asia, or to a special pace in Africa. So if you have a group of friends or large family and want you have a destination of adventure in mind, let us know and we will help design it for you.

October 2024 — Tiger fishing in western Tanzania. One of the most unfished, pristine tiger fish rivers in all of Africa. Only 4 spots. SOLD OUT!!

October 2024 — Remote Southern Tanzania. We will meet in Dar es Salaam, and fly to the little visited Ruaha National Park in southern Tanzania. There we will stay at the uber luxury Ikuka Camp on a private basis. From there we will proceed to Katavi National Park, which is even less visited than Ruaha! August 2024 — 11-12 day safari to Zimbabwe: We will safari to two wonderful parks in Zimbabwe, using charter planes to get us where other people don’t go. Guided by Zimbabwe’s Julian Brookstein. We will end our safari at Victoria Falls. Only 6 persons. Cost: $11,942/person. SOLD OUT!!

2023 Guided Trips

Vietnam and Cambodia February 2023 — We will meet for two nights in Ho Chi Minh City, and explore that cities food scene and it’s infamous war-era Cu Chi tunnels, then we will sail up the Mekong River to Kampong Chhang in Cambodia. Along the way will see smaller villages such as Chau Doc, Koh Nghe Tei’s (Silk Island) silk making industry, Prek Kdam, the Tonle Sap floating village, the larger town and capital of Phnom Penh. At the end of this cruise we will overland to Siem Reap to spend 3 nights to see the famous temples at Angkor Wat. $5,350/person sharing. SOLD OUT!!

April 12-21, 2023 — Sail for 8 days on the M/Y Baltra, a small, 8 cabin vessel that will take us to the Remote wester islands of the Galapagos Islands. We will be the sole guests on this boat. Botswana Self-Drive Camping July 15-28, 2023 — Starting in Maun, we collect our 4x4s with rooftop tents and head north into the Okavango Delta. Over the course of 13 days we complete a circle of some of Botswana’s premier national parks. Supported by a guide and a cook to do the heavy lifting, we will camp in Khwai, Savuti, Chobe, and Linyanti areas. We will do a short visit to Victoria Falls, and end our trip with stays at the famous Elephant Sands resort and camping on the Makgadikgadi Pan. Cost $4,425/person plus vehicle rental. SOLD OUT!

August 3-14, 2023 — 11 day Safari to Zimbabwe: We will begin in Victoria Falls, and experience Africa’s largest herds of elephants in Hwange National Park, and then fly by private charter plane to Gonarezhou National Park.
